Jin Xu was born in Liuzhou, Guangxi, P. R. China, on October 12, 1966. She graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, P. R. China with a BS in mechanical engineering in 1988. In 1991, she graduated from Guangxi University, P. R. China with a MS in mechanical engineering. After that, she worked in the dynamic measurement center of Guangxi University. In January, 1995, she entered the graduate program in computer science at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
