The key to tracking and analyzing histories of evolving structures is to
accurately map the structures to their corresponding ancestors.
Therefore,
the image processing sequence of splitting and merging flames is the
foundation for this problem. Without this mapping, no comparisons can
be made of structure evolution over time.
It requires bringing together existing features
in Trackx, as well as new
image processing techniques developed specifically for
this problem. This chapter details these techniques.
