Experimental Setup
The combustion experiments are conducted at the University of Houston.
A circular porous plug burner is housed in a pressure-controlled chamber.
Working pressures of 1/3 atm to 1/2 atm are needed to observe
cell formation. The burner is cooled by flowing chilled water
through a helically-wound coil embedded in the plug. A
mixture of propane-air or isobutane-air is fed from the bottom
through the burner and the flame front is ignited above the burner.
