Downloading What You Need
You will need the following two products:
Java 2 SDK contains the Java language and Java virtual machine needed for
developing and running programs on your machine. Java WorkShop is a nice
graphical environment for Java program development.
Installation
- You must install Java 2 SDK first. The file that you downloaded is called
jdk1_2_1-win.
- Close all of your currently running programs before beginning the installation.
- Click on the downloaded file
jdk1_2_1-win to begin
the installation.
- You should just following the default installation procedure except possibly for the following two steps:
- When it asks for the path on which to install the program,
you may want to put it somewhere other than your C or D drive if
you are low on space. Just put it where you want it and when the wizard
asks if you want to create the indicated directory, answer Yes.
- The other place where you might want to deviate from the default
installation is when you are asked which components to install. The Java source
code is available, but it takes a lot of space. You are not likely to need
it right away, so you may want to deselect the source code.
- Now install Java WorkShop:
- Click on the downloaded file
jws3.0.intel-win32 to start installation.
- Follow the default installation.
- During the installation, the wizard will ask if the jdk1.2.1 is
somewhere other than the default places. If you didn't install it
in the regular place, answer Yes to the wizard and then fill in the
correct path.
