A summer program designed to introduce high school teachers to object-oriented programming and the Advanced Placement Curriculum in Computer Science was held in the summer of 2000. This program was co-sponsored by NASA and the San Antonio Urban Systemic Initiative program.

NASA sponsored the program in the summer of 2001.

In 2003, the program evolved into the UTSA CS Graduate Summer Program for High School Teachers.
